Interactive Activity: Create Your Own Mini Huangshan Landscape

Families can recreate the beauty of Huangshan together through a fun, hands-on activity that captures the mountain’s distinctive look with towering rock formations, mist, and pine trees.

Instructions

  1. Materials Needed: Clay or playdough, paint (grey, green, and white), small figurines or pebbles, cotton balls, and a base like cardboard or a paper plate.
  2. Build the Peaks: Use clay or playdough to form the mountain peaks. Shape them to mimic the sharp, steep formations of Huangshan, making a few taller peaks for dramatic effect.
  3. Paint and Add Trees: Once the clay dries, paint the peaks grey. Add small green patches to represent Huangshan’s iconic pine trees. You can use small sticks or pieces of green clay to form trees along the slopes.
  4. Add the Mist: To create Huangshan’s famous mist, pull apart cotton balls and spread them thinly around the peaks. Place the cotton carefully to make it look like the mountains are floating in a sea of clouds.
  5. Tell a Family Story: After finishing the landscape, have each family member add a small figurine or pebble as their “character” and tell a short adventure story set in their version of Huangshan.

This activity not only introduces children to Huangshan’s scenery but also encourages them to imagine their own adventures in a magical setting, fostering creativity and family bonding.
